Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance: The Gyalwang Drukpa speaks on the topic of "Extremism“

At the invitation of the ZEIT Foundation, the Gyalwang Drukpa participated in a panel discussion at the "Bucerius Summer School on Global Governance" in Hamburg on August 18, 2016. The focus was on the topic of "Extremism".

International experts exchanged views on the topic of "Finding Approaches to a Multifaceted Security Challenge." The Gyalwang Drukpa spoke about religion and extremism. He emphasized the importance of humanity, saying it is more important than religion. It was crucial, he said, that each individual take action to change the world.

Immediately before the conference, the founder of Live To Love had said in a statement:
"Too often we wait for leaders and governments to bring us peace. But think about it for a moment: It is individuals who create peace. And once individuals create peace, it becomes strong, lasting and true. However, this does not mean that we sit nicely on our meditation cushion and enjoy our inner peace. Peace requires action. Peace requires true awareness of urgency. Peace requires courage and hard work. Peace means that each of us is committed to contributing to mutual understanding and takes on the task of rejecting fear. Peace requires not only accepting existing differences, but celebrating them. Peace encourages us to embrace difference."

In light of the rise of extremist acts and the search for solutions to deal with them, the Gyalwang Drukpa had specially interrupted the current "4th Drukpa Eco Cycle Yatra" for two days to attend this important international exchange.
